Fiber Mill

Kitalpha Alpacas has the only alpaca fiber mill of the Netherlands! We process our own alpaca till yarn. From this yarn we make, by hand, clothing and accessories for our own farm shop.

Although machine-made, there is still a lot of (manual) work involved in processing alpaca wool. First, we have to take good care of our alpacas for a year, to grow a beautiful coat. After all, an alpaca is only shorn once a year. We also do the shearing ourselves, in peace, so that takes a little longer than average. This way, the alpacas experience minimal stress and they look great again after the haircut. The shorn fleece has to be washed before it can be processed by the machines. Then it is combed, smoothed and finally spun. The entire process of wool processing takes several days, for one fleece.
